I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and enjoyed time spent with family; I know that I did. I got to spend Thanksgiving in Cincinnati with my family. Great things were happening here in Baja during the Thanksgiving holiday and I am more and more in awe every day of how God is moving and working here in Baja. Let me tell you a little bit about what has been happening recently.
Last Saturday at the City of Children there was a soccer tournament for all of the teens in from the Baja churches. The City of Children and the La Cortez church from here in Ensenada organized the event and teens came from all over Baja to play. Basically all of the churches from Ensenada, south were represented as well as two from Tijuana. The City of Children also had a team in the tournament. From what I heard when I arrived back on Tuesday from many of the preachers and kids here at the City of Children is that the tournament was a huge success. In a heated final match the team from La Cortez beat San Quintin in penalty shots to claim the crown of the first annual Soccer tournament at the City of Children. The teen girls also challenged the all the preachers to a match. Special recognition for putting on a fantastic event should go to Patty and Ricardo and the City of Children, the La Cortez church, as well as to Stan Stout and brother Franco for preparing delicious hamburgers. It was a great day of fellowship and fun for the teens of Baja! Thanks to Leah Phillips for the following pictures.

In spite of the rain the games went on as planned!

The teen girls from the City of Children as well as from the other churches challenged the minister to a futbol match.
During the Thanksgiving holiday two students from Lipscomb University also came to visit the Francos and the families of El Zorrillo. Leah Phillips and Siobhan Hickerson came and spent several days with the Francos visiting families and enjoying each other's company. They were able to purchase food sets and blankets for the members of the church in El Zorrillo. I saw Franco on Tuesday and he said that the members of the church in El Zorrillo send their deepest thanks to these two young ladies and to everyone who donated so that they could provide the church with these great blessings! Thanks to Siobhan, Leah, the Goodlettsville church, and to everyone who helps take care of the needs of the people in Baja!
This coming weekend a group from the Murietta congregation will be coming to do their annual visit to Maneadero. During this visit they plan to spend time with the church membrs in Maneadero, give gifts to more than 70 children, and also pass out food sets to need families. It is truly a very difficult time during these winter months here in Baja, and food sets can really lighten a families burden during these times of little work. I am very excited to get to spend time with Tom Begin and the rest of the group and see the smiles that they put on the children of Maneadero's faces! More to come next week on how God moves in this event!
Also, on Saturday evening Alejandro has planned an event for the teens from around Ensenada. We will be going to El Zorrillo where the teens with get a chance to eat together, play some games, and have a devotional around a bonfire. Brother Franco has volunteered to cook hotdogs for all the teens and I am trying to convince Alejandro that a bonfire isn't a bonfire if there aren't any s'mores. I'm not sure if s'mores are a common bonfire treat here or not, but hopefully I'll get a chance to share something from the States with the teens here in Baja! Please be praying for Alejandro and the work that he is doing with the teens.
I love being able to write this update because I know that you all love the people and the work that is being done here in Baja. I know that many of you can't wait to get word of things that are happening here in Baja. I also know that those who come to work here form strong bonds within their groups and with those who serve side by side with them. I want to take time in this weekly report to mention a man that meant a lot to many not only here in Baja, but to everyone he came in contact with. Bill King passed away early in the morning on November 14th. He will be missed by many, but has left a legacy of faith in his family and friends, as well as the people that he came in contact with here in the Baja. Please be praying for his wife Phyllis and the rest of their family!
